Sitting Putney MP, Fleur Anderson chose a riverside location for her re-election campaign launch and was joined by a celebrity guest.

Feargal Sharkey, lead singer of The Undertones and national environmental campaigner for clean rivers and waterways, was on hand to see her commence her bid to retain her seat in the General Election on Thursday 4 July.

He gave her his endorsement saying, “Fleur is an excellent local MP and a brilliant environmental campaigner. Her energy and vision make her an extremely effective campaigner and I have been delighted to work alongside her as we campaign against sewage and for clean rivers around Britain. I am impressed that she forced the Government to ban plastic in wet wipes - the scourge of rivers like the Thames. Putney must vote for her at the General Election on Thursday 4th July 2024 – she is head and shoulders above any other candidate. Her record speaks for itself.”

Fleur Anderson said, “It was wonderful to launch my campaign for re-election here on the Putney Embankment. I am excited that the British people, and the people living in Putney, are finally being given the chance to vote for change. It was an honour to be joined at Putney Embankment by Feargal Sharkey, who I have campaigned alongside to clean up our rivers. “

She says will be campaigning on local issues including the reopening of Hammersmith Bridge, improving local air quality and protecting green spaces, more police on Putney’s streets and championing Putney High Street, as well as Labour's national priorities; economic stability, investment in the NHS and green energy. “

She continued, “I am excited to be on the campaign trail. I am so proud of what I have achieved in the last 4 years – from saving the Urgent Treatment Centre at St Mary’s Hospital to winning a ban on single-use plastics, campaigning to save Wimbledon Park, ban trophy hunting, reinvigorating our High Street and filling empty shops, tackling traffic, congestion and air pollution. I relentlessly of speak up on the issues most important to local residents.”

She has served Putney as MP since 2019, when Putney was the only Labour seat gained in the country as the party saw one of its worst ever election results. Officially, she ceases to be the local MP when the current parliament is dissolved this Thursday (30 May).

The Conservatives will be hoping to win back the seat, which has switched between the two parties over the last few decades after winning a recent council by-election in Putney West. However, polling organisation Electoral Calculus are predicting a very low chance of a Tory win.
