Whilst the bridge is closed take time to discover new or old favourites

Putney Bridge is currently closed for essential repairs but Putney Town Centre is open for business and would welcome you to come and discover the beauty of Putney, the great range of retail shops, fine restaurants and pubs, relaxing cafes, excellent entertainment and of course the river bank.

Each day during the bridge closure works the Town Centre Manager will identify a gem of Putney which she recommends you visit.

Week 8 –Leading up to Putney Funday on 7th September 11am - 5pm

Tuesday 2nd – Rowing and the river
The Putney Embankment, which extends for half a mile from Putney Bridge to Beverley Brook was constructed in 1887. One of the great events of the year is the Oxford and Cambridge boat race, which starts from here and is rowed to Mortlake. The championship course was altered from Westminster to Putney to Putney to Mortlake in 1845. Putney has superseded Westminster as a rowing centre and is the headquarters of several noted rowing clubs including the Leander Rowing Club, London Rowing Club, the Thames Rowing Club and others.

This Sunday, Thames Rowing Club will be offering taster rowing sessions in the indoor tank, and Vesta Rowing Club will have lots of boats out for the public to view. Along with London Rowing Club, Vesta and Thames will both have their bars open and their beautiful clubhouses open to visit.

RNLI will be doing a demonstration at midday on the river close to Putney Pier about how to get a body from the water.

Wednesday – Children in Putney
There is a lot for children to do in Putney but especially this Sunday at the Open Putney Funday.

Eddie Catz, will have a big bouncy castle alongside the Church so children can jump off their energy.

Face painting for those children who like to pretend they are a butterfly or Spiderman whilst, those that would prefer to be a bus driver can drive the buses in the mini toy set funfair ride.
The more traditional children can enjoy the giant games, Jenga, Noughts and crosses whilst the parents can relax looking onto the river.

Punch and Judy will have shows throughout the day in the grass area behind the Church.
There will also be a fun run for children, register on the day to take part or if running isn’t your thing then the Land Train Company will be offering train rides along the Embankment.

Thursday – Health and wellbeing in Putney
There is no excuse to have a bad back in Putney, there are a wealth of providers to ensure good health. Three to note are Physio 4 Life, Live Free Chiropractic & Wellness who are exhibiting on Sunday in Church Square and on the Embankment offering taster sessions.

There will be an ambulance size mobile health van located on the Embankment to provide free NHS Health checks to residents of Wandsworth borough aged between 40 years and 74 years.
And for those between ages 5 and 17 MoreLife will be offering free healthier lifestyle programmes including health and weight checks, discussing sugars in various drinks and encouraging an active lifestyle.

Friday – Art and Vintage Treats
This Sunday the popular monthly art and craft market returns to Putney Embankment. Focusing on local art and design talent, offering original artwork across a range of mediums including ceramics, jewellery, sculpture and painting.

For this month they will be joined by a unique selection of vintage and retro traders all with glorious views across the Thames.

Come along, enjoy the atmosphere, spend some money and go home with some original purchases.

Saturday – Yummy food
Of course no Funday is complete without an enticing array of foods to choose from.
Putney’s Kitchenette will be selling mouthwatering Turkish food in Church Square alongside home baked cakes, and the Dukes Head will be offering their Sunday Smoky Pig BBQ.

A choice of street foods will be set up on the Embankment to include French crepes, Caribbean Jerk Chicken, Spanish Paella, Mexican Tacos, Belgian fries, and Italian pizza wood fired in a converted VW campervan.

For those who would like a drink the Star and Garter will have an outside bar and we will also have a wine stall, aswell as coffee stands.

Sunday – Open Putney Funday
The bridge is closed but that is not stopping Putney.
