Aubyn Square Estate social housing will use 'Passivhaus' standards
August 12, 2024 Wandsworth Council is proceeding with a plan to demolish garages on a Roehampton estate and replace them with social housing. The Aubyn Square Estate scheme will provide 12 new flats all of which will be within the Homes for Wandsworth programme and allocated using a local lettings policy. Planning permission was granted last month, with the pledge that the units will all be delivered to Passivhaus standards (an internationally-recognised standard for reducing a building’s carbon footprint and improve residents’ wellbeing). The new flats will replace garages that the council says were underused across the Eastwood North estate . As part of the scheme, there will also be a series of landscape improvements including East-West route for pedestrians, new play areas for children, and increased biodiversity with new trees and plants introduced. The council says the scale and character of the new buildings have been developed in response to resident comments received at a series of consultation events held on the estate. Cllr Aydin Dikerdem, Wandsworth Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, said, “We are building beautiful high quality council housing across the borough. Working alongside local communities, we are creating homes that people want to live in. “It’s really important to us that the existing communities on our estates get to enjoy the benefit of these new schemes. That’s why we’re delighted that alongside these new homes being built, those residents already living on the estate will see positive investment and improvements to the local area.”
