A number of people have expressed concern about the recent disappearance of the lampshades on Putney Bridge.

They have been replaced by LED panels on top of the ornate stands on the wall of the Grade II listed structure.

One resident contacted us to say, “I really hope this isn’t permanent, instead of being a comforting presence in the evening they now loom like some sort of steam-punk robot!”

The council is telling people not to be concerned as the departure of the Victorian lamps is a temporary measure to allow them to be treated for corrosion and, as soon as this work is complete, they will be back in place.
