Thamesfield Cllr Mike Ryder gives PutneySW15 the latest on the plans to illuminate Putney Bridge
Cllr Mike Rydertold PutneySW15 today: “I know some residents think that lighting up our iconic bridge seems to be a long time coming, but I would like to draw their attention to this statement from the council’s Cabinet member for community services, Councillor Jonathan Cook: ‘The council has secured £450,000 of Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) funding towards the uplighting of Putney Bridge. The council has commissioned a full topographical and electrical survey of the bridge and has recently appointed a design team to develop design options for the bridge lighting. Subject to final costs and approvals, it is intended to have a working illumination project in place by Autumn 2018.’
Councillor Ryder commented: “I hope that does reassure residents about the bridge being lit up. This is such an important project that we want to be sure we get it right.”
Councillor Ryder also said he was grateful for all the tributes paid to his late colleague Councillor Jim Maddan, including this from council leader Ravi Govindia, who said: “The tributes that have rolled in are testament to just how much he was admired and respected, both in his professional career in the Metropolitan Police force and latterly as a member of this council for Thamesfield Ward. Jim was Putney through and through; he cared passionately for the local area, his ward and its residents. He was a Putney Rotarian for 20 years, and a tireless advocate for the vulnerable and the elderly.
“Jim served also as Mayor in 2006/07, during which time he attended 700 events and engagements. Before taking up the role for a second time in April, he had served as Cabinet member for adult care and health, a position he held from 2008 onwards.“
To quote one tribute – ‘he was a true and genuine servant of the people.’
