Christopher Langworthy’s first concert to welcome spring with Dvorak and Mozart

The first concert by the 1885 Singers since the retirement of founding musical director Alison Hunkla will be a welcome to the arrival of spring.

Christopher Langworthy has been appointed in her place. He was Assistant Director of Music at Lancing College and is now Head of Music at Godolphin and Latymer School in Hammersmith. He is described as an outstanding organist and keyboard player and is also part of an award-winning barbershop group.

The choir says he is already making his mark with the choir with his dynamic and inspiring leadership.

His conducting debut will be on Sunday 10 March at 7.30pm at All Saints Church, Putney Common.

The concert will feature Dvorak’s Mass in D Major and Mozart’s Mass in C Major with Alex Wilson as organist.

Tickets can be purchased on the door for £15 or £12 for concessions.

The 1885 Singers is open to everyone and gives four concerts a year, usually March, June, October and December. There is a 4-8 week lead into each concert with rehearsals on Mondays in All Saints Church.

It is a non-auditioned choir of about 50 voices who enjoy singing from a wide repertoire of secular and sacred choral music.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
