5 a day takeaway.......
A growing number of men have a weight problem in Wandsworth, almost half are overweight and one in five are obese. Even losing ten percent of your weight has benefits: you’ll reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes as well as reduce breathlessness and snoring, improve your mood, self esteem and sex life! There are some really simple steps you can take.
Eating well doesn’t mean giving up everything you enjoy and eating salads instead! It’s about eating a variety of different, healthy foods – and reducing the amount of high fat and sugary foods.
Everyone needs to eat at least five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. It sounds like a lot, but it really only takes a little bit of thought – even a full English breakfast in a greasy spoon can include a load of vegetables: swap your sausage, black pudding and mug of tea for mushrooms, tomatoes, beans and a glass of fresh orange juice and you’ve already had four of your five a day!
Downsize on high-fat and sugary foods. If you have to order pizza on Friday night then go for a thin crust with veggie or fish toppings as these are less fatty, and avoid the pepperoni and extra cheese. Don’t forget to swap your coke for water to keep you hydrated.
Finally get some exercise. If you have to have a curry on Saturday night then walk there!
