Local residents were surprised when an advertising hoarding appeared next to the A3 near the ASDA Roehampton Superstore.

There had been no planning application for the signs and when campaign group Take Down the Ads (TADA) alerted the Wandsworth Borough Council Planning Department it transpired that no planning application had been made.

It is understood that the owner of the land gave permission for the sign to be put up.

The Planning Department subsequently advised TDTA that this advertisement had been erected by a private company and that as soon as the advertisement was brought to the Council’s attention, enforcement officers immediately raised the issue with the company and required its removal.

Permission is being sought retrospectively

However subsequently the council said, ‘ the company wished for the merits of the advertisements to be assessed in detail’ and have submitted retrospectively an application for planning consent. This is currently being considered under ref. 2021/4503 and can be viewed on the WBC website by clicking here.

The application does not make clear whether or not the hoarding will be illuminated.

There is no requirement for the hoarding to be removed while the review is pending.

A number of objections have already been lodged against this application and TDTA says it will be submitting its objection shortly

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.
