Ad Boards on A3 Erected Without Permission | ||||
Retrospective application submitted for sign near ASDA Roehampton
Local residents were surprised when an advertising hoarding appeared next to the A3 near the ASDA Roehampton Superstore. There had been no planning application for the signs and when campaign group Take Down the Ads (TADA) alerted the Wandsworth Borough Council Planning Department it transpired that no planning application had been made. It is understood that the owner of the land gave permission for the sign to be put up. The Planning Department subsequently advised TDTA that this advertisement had been erected by a private company and that as soon as the advertisement was brought to the Council’s attention, enforcement officers immediately raised the issue with the company and required its removal.
However subsequently the council said, ‘ the company wished for the merits of the advertisements to be assessed in detail’ and have submitted retrospectively an application for planning consent. This is currently being considered under ref. 2021/4503 and can be viewed on the WBC website by clicking here. The application does not make clear whether or not the hoarding will be illuminated. There is no requirement for the hoarding to be removed while the review is pending. A number of objections have already been lodged against this application and TDTA says it will be submitting its objection shortly
