Tony Colman MP met with Kay Dixon (pictured right), London Manager of Postwatch to protest against the proposed Post Office Closure on Montford Place/Princes Way, Southfields.

Tony Colman said, “I totally oppose this closure as I have with the other Post Office closures in Putney. The Princes Way Post Office provides an essential service to local residents, especially older and less mobile members of the community.

“The consultation process ends on 21 June and I invite others to write in to oppose. Postwatch will be announcing their decision at the end of the consultation on 21 June and I anticipate that Postwatch will back me in opposing this closure. I also welcome the local Council’s support for my position.”

Wandsworth Council are having a public meeting in Tooting on 22 June which Kay Dixon has been invited to discuss Post Office Closures. Tom Cox has raised the issue of post office closures in Tooting in a Parliamentary Early Day Motion which Tony Colman has signed:

That this House notes with very deep concern the proposed closure of four post offices in the Tooting constituency; notes that these closures follow the closure of previous post offices in the area; is of the opinion that whatever reasons are given by the Post Office for these closures there is not sufficient concern given to the views of local people who clearly do not want or support such a policy; further notes that these closures will deny to local people an essential local service that they value and use; and calls on the Post Office to listen fully and consult people in the areas where these closures are proposed before any final decision is made.
