Average price remains high over summer months

Although slightly down on the record breaking level of last month, the average price level in the SW15 post code area remained at about the £700,000 mark during the month of August.
There were 95 properties reported as sold to the Land Registry, a brisk level of turnover for a summer month. The average price was £701,275. Of these 17 changed hands for one million pounds or more.
During the month a house in Heathview Gardens became the seventh most expensive ever in the Putney or Roehampton area costing its new owners £4,200,000.
The August data from Land Registry's House Price Index shows an annual price increase of 7.1% in London to £389,066. Nationally there was a 1.3% increase which takes the average property value in England and Wales to £164,654. Repossession volumes decreased by 21 per cent in June 2013 to 1,131 compared with 1,423 in June 2012.
The most up-to-date figures available show that during June 2013, the number of completed house sales in England and Wales increased by 1.0% to 60,168 compared with 59,854 in June 2012. The number of properties sold in England and Wales for over £1 million in June 2013 increased by 16% to 788 from 679 in June 2012.
