Two of the iconic Putney posters that vanished from the Railway pub in Putney High Street as it was renovated to become a Revolution cocktail bar have been saved.

Thamesfield Councillor Mike Ryder stepped in when he read on SW15 that local resident Philip Evison was alarmed that all the historic posters on the walls of the pub, built in 1886, had disappeared during the renovation.

Cllr Ryder contacted Revolution, and its property director Godfrey Russell (aided with these pictures of two posters showing former Putney-born Labour PM Clement Attlee and of the 1647 Putney Debates) has managed to track those two down in a container in Scotland and is arranging for them to be returned to Putney.

Cllr Ryder said, "It was very public-spirited of Revolution to take so much trouble to help save them. At least a little piece of Putney's heritage is still with us, with the help of Revolution and the SW15 site."

Philip Evison said: "I'm extremely pleased at the recovery of these two 'posters' and thank everybody for their efforts - especially Cllr Mike Ryder."
