A branch of the Mexican fast-food chain, Chipotle, will be opening up in the former Santander bank building in Putney High Street.

Plans have been submitted to create a replacement shopfront for the building, as well as a re-located front entrance and two new awnings.

The scheme submitted to Wandsworth Council only covers the building's ground floor with a report explaining it will be re-fitted to turn it into a restaurant, with the aim for it to be completed next month.

Chipotle, which also has branches in Chiswick and Battersea, specialises in Mexican grill food - including burritos, tacos and salads. The new restaurant will be just two doors down from the Putney branch of McDonalds.

The Santander branch in Putney closed down in July 2021, as one of 111 across the country to serve its final customers that year. At the time, Santander said analysis has shown there were only 79 customers that have transacted with them six or more times in the year and used the Putney branch exclusively.

A plan of the new restaurant submitted with the planning application

Wandsworth Council has already consulted with 39 neighbours about the Chipotle plans and is welcoming more comments until 9 October. You can make your views know by searching for application number 2023/3042 on the council's planning explorer.
